02:57 am - SERENA Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue ridge mountains Shenandoah river Life is old there Older than the trees Younger than the mountains Growin like a breeze
Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads
I must confess to you one of the greatest concerts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing... Victor Wooten and his gang of virtuosos. I was overjoyed with joy. Greg and I both. We are lucky enough to have the greatest manager in the universe and he got us these swell passes. Thanks muchly to Athena as well.
Obviously I knew it was going to be an extraordinary show. And based on the technicalities alone, one's head is likely to explode. But the real righteousness of these players, is that they play with their hearts, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who play whole heartedly. And what a honour it is to be let into their world for one night. They play for themselves AND for the awestruck audience.
I was nearing tears just watching them enjoy the music. They engage you. Their passion for the music engages you. That's amazing. I only hope that I can do the same with our music.
So as I fight off my impulse to cry tears of happiness. Victor begins to play "I Can't Make You Love Me" (written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin, recorded by Bonnie Raitt) with the wickedly stupendous THE VOICE (the female vocalist) and from the first note, I lost all control. And I was glad to. Why deny what the music was making me feel? It was an absolutely amazing release.
I've never felt that at a concert before. It was gargantuan. Cheers to Mr. Wooten. If you ever get a chance to see him play, I urge you to take it.
So long for now ladies and gentlemen

01:09 pm - NICOLAS I sense of heat I couldn't bear to touch I couldn't bear it
Hope everyone in Canada had a fun and exciting Thanksgiving weekend. I went away to New York and New Jersey for the weekend to visit with my girlfriend's family. It was an awesome time, while in NYC we saw EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL... I'm not joking. WOW it was hilarious; the seats in the first three rows were covered in plastic. Oh man the fake blood was a flowin' and the people in the front got SOAKED!
Jersey was great, great food and fun times and there was of course the obligatory stop at duty free on the way home.
Just so you know from now on when we post a new journal on our live journal page we're going to also post it on our myspace as a blog and vice versa. In addition we're going to be posting a lot of new pictures, new tunes (live and stuff), and (as we get some done) some new videos soon.
We run our own myspace so message us whenever and we'll get back to you. Check back often for the most up to date info and news on when the label is putting out our record (I'm personally starting to think they are planning a simultaneous release with Chinese Democracy). Anyway folks like I said feel free to write anytime and check back often.

11:18 pm - SERENA So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise You better see right thru that Mother's eyes Those freaks was right when they said you was dead The one mistake you made was in your head How do you sleep? Oh How do you sleep at night?
We have been pretty busy this past month... playing shows with our beloved new friends in Rides Again. As well as our long time favourites The Trews, LateFallen, Daylight for Deadeyes, and The Guv'nor Generals. It's been quite a lot of fun. And I will miss it terribly until we play again. Ah, the road. How I loveth the.
I am terribly embarassed to admit this, and I wouldn't have had to, if someone hadn't deleted a past myspace message. But I was supposed to mention two girls here in my journal..... their names have completely slipped my shrunken mind. Was it Adrienne and Amanda? Or Samantha? Oh god, I'm so sorry girls. As I was about to write this entry, I looked up the message that was sent just the other day, and like I said... it was gone. And now I'm fucked. Please, if you read this, write me once again, and I will thank you properly for the journal reminder. (They reminded me of my journal writing duties at the show in London, and faithful readers that they are, we agreed that I should thank them in the next entry). What a lousy thank you this has become, since I can't even remember anything.
Well, I can tell you one thing for sure. There is nothing louder and cooler than experiencing Top Fuel Dragsters dragging down the track. Thanks to our very good buddy Rolls Royce, Greg and I got V.I.P. passes to Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga. How fuckin' cool is that? I can't wait to do it again someday. Those crazy cars make your chest rumble, they so loud, and the FIRE. The Fire baby! It'll kill us both.
Ha. I went to the new H&M today in the Pen Centre. What a nightmare. Although I did meet a cool security guard guarding those over priced, Madonna hyped, trendtastic pieces of fluff. You know, I admit I do enjoy the store, and some of its clothing, but it was not wise to have gone on the second day of its opening. There was simply too many people in there, and too many neon lights. You'd think that in a store that wants you to buy their product, and make you feel good in it, they would have better lighting. That which would make you look good. Or maybe it's just me... Look away, I'm hideous! After a while, I swear I could feel their eyes burning holes through my army surplus jacket. The eyes of an H&M fashionista. I had to get out. I will brave it again another day.
Well, I guess I'll get off this compy thing for now. Halloween approaches. I hope you're as excited as I am. I would love to be V. For Vendetta. But I'm not sure how I would pull off the face.... Maybe I'll just be what I was born to be... a Pirate!
Arrrrr me mateys,
Captain Serena Pruyn
(Check me out in all my pirate majesty on myspace, courtesy of Nanner) (AND also check out a new track "Don't want you back", and a newer version of "Where I am", both from our soon to be released record, Sixth and Brazos)

10:20 am - ALLAN Hey there,
Long time no speak. Well I must say the last two weeks was quite fun. We had three shows in a row in London, Hamilton and Toronto followed by a Barrie show the week after. The bill for these shows were killer and we managed to make some new friends while on the road. Thanks to the following bands for playing with us.
The Govn'r Generals ( kicking it hard southern rock style) Latefallen ( Rockers from the T-Dot) Daylight for Deadeyes ( Killer three piece with rock and roll soul) Rides Again ( Another awesome three piece from Oshawa )
As always, was a pleasure playing with all you cool cats and am sure we will hook up again in the near future. It's raining out and it sucks right now. Crappy weekend once again. See you all at a show near you. Stay tuned for updates on the website and myspace ( www.myspace.com/oliverblack) very very soon.........
Peace out.

10:53 pm - SERENA Once there was a way to get back homeward Once there was a way to get back home Sleep pretty darling, do not cry And I will sing a lullaby
Golden Slumbers fill your eyes Smiles awake you when you rise Sleep pretty darling, do not cry And I will sing a lullaby
I feel a little tired. I haven't really slept much since we've been home. Sleeping in the van is usually okay with me, but after doing it for an ungodly amount of time, it becomes trying. So now my problem is falling asleep in a bed. It's weird, not sleeping in a bed... Yeah I'm definitely tired, why else would I be talking about such nonsense?
Wakestock was fuckin' rad today. I had a lot of fun. All of the bands on the iCoke stage kicked arse. The Junction, Rocketface, The Miniatures, and The Trews. Bloody great it was! I got to catch most of Mobile's set on the Telus stage (the supremely large stage) which was a refreshing and most rockable performance. I have not seen those french lads in quite some time. They rocked it.
I sawr a Thornicus, and one Tim Seaton. Enchanting. I love those guys.
I almost felt like we were on the road again... Darryl was there, and looked after us like the super tour manager that he is. And our dearest Patrick and Justin showed their pretty faces too! The whole gang was out.
And now after a long day, and a very late snack with the Dain City family at Boston Pizza, I believe I will retire to the couch where I shall engage in a film of sorts.
Happiest of Birthdays to Gregor!
I fare thee well,
Serena of the Shire

04:10 pm - SERENA Oh my love, for the first time in my life My eyes are wide open
Holy vicious vichyssoise! V for Vendetta Vuckin' rules! And it also vivified my vocabulary. Not since Frank Miller's Sin City have I been so bloody astounded by a film. Rent it. Buy it. Whatever it takes, you must watch.
Right then. So, I haven't actually told you about how great these past shows out west were. They were righteous! It figures though that from the get go, I had no voice box. You see, I love the road, I'm just not well equipped for it. "The road is fuckin' hard, it's also really fuckin' tough!" (Tenacious D anyone?) Yeah, so I have quite a few health problems. And although having the windows down with the wind in your hair does indeed look sexy, it also makes my voice incredibly dry. So, no voice for the first show, as we ride sans A/C.
There were two days off here, if my brain serves me correctly, and we used that time approprietly to get us some condish! Some air conditioning that is. In the lovely T Bay. Would you believe we broke a world record of the amount of Freon needed to get the fucker filled? Well, we did ... break a record, but I don't believe its world wide, I think I may have exaggerated a bit there. It cost a whopping (the guys love it when I say it in these terms...) half a grand! Ah ha ha. But now we have the condish, and I no longer live in fear of long rides in the van.
The T Bay show was awesome, we made new friends with Money Honey, and Axidental Intention. The Axers' singer is nuts. We loved it! In Winnepeg, we got to hang with our boys Inward Eye! BBQ at Garth's house and all. It was awesome. Edmonton was outta sight. Easily one of the best shows we have played ever. The crowd was aching for it. And we gave it to them hard. Three Days Grace were on fire, what an excellent show.
***Amazing Edmonton side note: We had the good fortune of staying at Darryl (our radical friend and tour manager extraordinaire)'s mummy's house. Sweet! She even made killer pancakes with fruit in the morning. Thanks a million Elaine. And in some more insane news, we visited the West Edmonton Mall, as none other than V.I.P. guests thanks to Darryl the dynamo. It was fuckin' great. Also, we got to hang out with our beloved CHADWICK! Who happens to be nicely settled into his new job and loves the city. We miss you already Chad. Oh shit, one more thing, and how could I forget... We did an interview with the one and only Bill Wylechka. I nearly shat myself. Did you know he's from Welland? Weird. I think he really dug the show, and he put the interview in the next morning on City TV. Thanks to Bill for being so cool.***
Victoria's show was in a very nice bar called the Lucky Bar. Gorgeous. And we were surprised by Augie and pals (from the last time we played there with Default). Darling Katie Hood made it out as well. I love you Hoodster. Nanaimo... show cancelled, but we still got our kicks after giving fingerprints the morning following the robbery. Thanks to John Paul. I would love to meet you one day and share a few words. In Vancouver, we played a night with three Metal bands. Flood of Fire, Vicious Circle and Hooligan. Everyone was so nice, it was a really fun show. And our brothers from the Farm came out with their drinking shoes on too! Benny, James and Knish, I mean, Josh. Oh, how we've missed you. Grande Prairie never disappoints. Let's face it people, Alberta Folk truly know how to party. And our new pals at Sun Fm treated us real nice. They even have an acoustic performance that we did at the station up on their myspace. www.myspace.com/beavertalescanada
Medicine Hat, home of Kalan Porter, (who apparently digs chicks... good for him) was a very unique little acoustic show. Laura and everyone at Cafe Caprice. We fuckin' adore you! Oh my god, their food is magnificent. I had salmon and avocado sushi rolls. mmmmmm. And we met a real cool cat named Blake. Good luck with the band dude. Then it was straight off to Minnedosa to play with the Trewsies. The Rock the Fields festival is really cool and its non profit. Perhaps we'll be part of again next year.... that would be nice. In Regina, the crowd started small but grew quickly as the sun went down. We were on pretty early, and for some god awful reason, there were 45 minute change overs between bands... those poor people had a long time waiting. Allan and I went on the slingshot ride. Whatever its called. It's a gigantic slingshot with 120 springs that shoot you up into the sky. We have the DVD of it... maybe you'll get to see it someday. The Trews and Theory played awesome sets. And we all drank and hung out afterwards. It was swell.
Then a day off in Regina, and the next day we headed to Saskatoon. Some of us saw Talladega Nights, (Allan peed his pants laughing) and some us of went downtown where the Fringe festival was winding down. It was a great time hanging with the Trews again. We haven't been able to chill out in a while. And seeing Ian's (the Trews' tech) competitive alter ego come out swinging was hilarious. Ask him about IC. God, that guy is funny. The show in Saskatoon was fun. Again, we were on early, and there were some technical issues preceding the set, which kept the doors from opening promptly. Still an awesome show.
Well it looks like I've been rambling on for a while now, so I suppose I'll end it here. I'm going out to see The Guv'nor Generals play some redneckin' blues rock. I can't wait. Check them out with us at the El Mocombo September 15th.
Bye for now my rock'n'roll pretties,
Lady Serena
